Amboseli - Part3

We all reached Nairobi tired and hungry with a little hiccup at the Delhi airport where an immigration officer tried to pull a fast one on one of our group members. We reached a nice stay near the Nairobi airport itself which was a like a small service apartment. They welcomed us well, we settled down and eventually hit the restaurant on the top floor for some food. The food took a long time to be provided and we were lucky that there was enough vegetarian food for some in the group.

A little planning and few of us went out to check one of the local casino in Nairobi thinking that we will try our luck in a Poker Hand. Unfortunately we did not have any players on the table that day and we spent some time on the Blakcjack table. We still walked out with a minor profit, but were disappointed in the lack of poker play.

Next day, early in the morning while settling our luggage into the big Toyota Land cruisers, we were greeted by our winged friends. We saw a few fire finches, superb starlings, weavers, common house sparrow, black kites and sunbirds. We then started our journey to Amboseli, the name is derived from Maasai language which means “Salty dust”. The Amboseli national park has a lot of small twisters all the time and hence the name. After a good long journey, we reached the accommodation which was situated just few mins away from the main entrance of the national park.

This place that we were staying was filled with birds and we were hearing a lot of bird calls everywhere. We were so engrossed in listening to the sounds, we even ignored the welcome greetings that the reception was giving us. We were welcomed warmly with a hot towel and our suitcases sent to our designated rooms. During this little transit, we got to see some wonderful birds.
